There is no shortage of lighting fixtures on film sets. Everywhere you turn, there are lights.
It’s hard to walk on a set and not see a bunch of HMIs hanging out, or SkyPanel S60s everywhere, but with LED technology taking off, we’re seeing a lot of new lighting fixtures entering the scene.
Here are 9 new-ish fixtures we’ve started to see on film sets in Atlanta and LA.
Litegear LiteMat Spectrum
LiteMat Spectrum is the most camera compliant LED light fixture available. It can accurately reproduce any shade of white that the camera considers correct. That can be anywhere between 2,000K and 11,000K with +/- 8 points of tint correction.
LiteMat Spectrum can also augment its white light with color accents. Saturated color can be delicately added with 100 shades of depth. LiteMat Spectrum can also improve post-production workflows. It is the first lighting system to be certified color space compliant. That means taking the guesswork out of color mixing for digital cinema. Creamsource Vortex8
The Vortex8 is a versatile 2×1 RGBW system with CCT ranging from 2200K to 15000K that can be used as a hard punch light to bounce or push through diffusion, or as a creamy soft light with the Creamsource Dome or DoPchoice Snapbag. Effects and colour Gels are built into the latest CreamOS architecture in addition to a range of new features wrapped into an intuitive user interface.
Unpredictable weather and messy effects machines are no longer a worry for the lighting department where the Vortex is in place. The Vortex8 is IP65 water resistant and sealed for the ultimate security and efficiency. Rain, snow and dust wont hold the Vortex back.

KinoFlo Freestyle 21/41/Mini
Kino Flo’s award-winning FreeStyle 41 unleashes your creative side with a quick-release feature to remove the LED panel from the fixture, cutting the weight nearly in half (from 16 lbs/7.3kg to 9.6 lbs/4.4kg) and creating a smaller form factor for better rigging flexibility. The LED panel’s corner bumpers can be used to hang from rope or wire. The panel also takes a Twist-On mount for working on light stands. The Freestyle 41 comes complete with the full color, programmable FreeStyle controller, Head Cable (25ft), Complete Fixture with removable LED panel, and a twist-on KinoGrip Center Mount. Honeycomb 90° or 60° louvers, mounted with Velcro, give direction to the light, and when removed the panel displays a broad soft beam across the set.
Astera Helios
Helios Tube is an RGB – Amber – Mint LED lighting Tube that has all the features of the popular Titan Tube while offering a smaller format. It allows mounting in areas where a Titan Tube wouldn’t fit and also increases portability. This LED lighting Tube has 8 pixels, half the brightness of the Titan tube and just over half its length. Colors and brightness are perfectly matched to those of the Titan Tube`s.

Astera Titans
